What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a form of medicine which has developed in the East over the past 3,000 years. Extremely fine needles are inserted into points on the body on channels of energy known as ‘meridians’. Stimulation of these points has been found to have great curative and therapeutic effect.Acupuncture is a holistic form of medicine, meaning that health is viewed as a culmination of physical, mental and emotional well-being. Disharmony in any of these areas can lead to problems in other areas. Thus, acupuncture treats the whole person, not just a presenting symptom. The goal of acupuncture treatment is to treat the root cause of ill health, rather than suppressing the manifestation of the problem. Through effective diagnosis and treatment of the root cause of a health problem, long lasting relief from presenting symptoms is provided.
Today, people in the West are embracing acupuncture more than ever. It is one of the fastest growing complementary therapies in the UK. Many people have turned to acupuncture to supplement treatment from Western Medical practitioners, whilst others use it as a complete alternative. As a result of its wide range of applications, and its ability to treat many conditions that are not effectively helped though conventional means, more and more people discover acupuncture every day.
